Dua e Taraweeh (Dua of Taraweeh):

Taraweeh Hadith:

It has been narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurayrah Razi Allah Anho that the Holy Prophet-peace be upon Him-used to encourage offering of prayers on the nights of Ramadan. It states in the hadith that Prophet -peace be upon Him- said, “Whoever stays in Ramadan with the intention of gaining the reward and the state of faith, his previous, all sins are forgiven.”

The time for Taraweeh prayers is after Isha prayers and before Witr, and it is better to offer it in the last part of the night.

Prayer after Taraweeh and when to recite Taraweeh Dua:

While offering Taraweeh prayers, after every four rak’ats, a stop is made and Tasbeeh Taraweeh, Azkar and Salat and Salam are recited.

How many rakat in Taraweeh:

Some people say that Taraweeh has a total of eight rak’ats, while according to the correct view, Taraweeh has a total of twenty (20) rak’ats. Umm Al-Mu’minin narrated from Hazrat Ayesha Siddiqah – may Allah be pleased with her – that one night the Prophet – peace and blessings of Allah be upon him – offered Supererogatory prayers in the mosque, and the people prayed along with him. Then the Prophet – peace be upon him – prayed the next night, and more people assembled. They also assembled on the third or fourth night, and the Prophet also did not come to them. When morning dawned, he said, “I saw what you did, and only kept me away from you lest it should become obligatory on you.” This is the event of Ramadan.

Importance of Taraweeh:

Ramadan is the spring of the spiritual world. Special acts of worship in this blessed month include: daytime fasting and night prayers or Taraweeh. The Prophet -peace be upon him- said: “Allah Almighty has made fasting of this month obligatory upon you, and I have made its establishment a Sunnah for you.” Among the innumerable bounties of this holy month, one is that the reward of one nafl is considered equal to the farz, while one farz carries the reward equal to seventy farz. So these blessed watches should be considered as spoils and not a single moment should be wasted. Perhaps in the future, we will get these sacred watches or not. Umm Al-Mu’minin Hazrat Ayesha (RA) says: “When the month of Ramadan came, the Prophet-peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him-would tighten his belt and not go to bed until Ramadaan had passed. But when the last ten nights of Ramadan come, Ayesha-may Allah be pleased with her-says: “What the Prophet-peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him-used to do in the last ten days, he did not do in the rest of the days.” He also encouraged the ummah to worship in this month. Hazrat Abu Hurayrah-may Allah be pleased with him-narrates: “The Prophet-peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him-said: Whoever recites Taraaweeh in Ramadaan with the intention of reward with faith, his past sins will be forgiven.”

Origin of Taraweeh:

The Prophet -peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him- said twenty rak’ahs. Among the Rightly Guided Caliphs, Hazrat Umar (RA), Hazrat Uthman (RA), and Hazrat Ali (RA), other Companions (RA), Imams of Mujtahidin, and Hazrat Mashaikh (RA) have been following it for fourteen hundred years. This is happening and the consensus of the ummah is on it. This will be explained in the following lines.

Meaning of Taraweeh:

Taraweeh is the plural of “Taraweeha,” and Taraweeh is said rest once just as “Taslima” is said greet once.

What is Taraweeh?

“Tarviha” is the seat in which to take some rest. Since the four rak’ats of Taraweeh

There is a little rest after the performance of four rak’ats, these four rak’ats of Taraweeh are called a Taraweeh and as there are five Taraweehs in the entire Taraweeh, the combination of the five is called Taraweeh. Allama Hafiz Ibn Hajar Asqalani Shafi’i – May Allah have mercy on him- said:

The prayers performed in a congregation on the nights of Ramadan are called “Taraweeh” because, when the Companions – may Allah be pleased with them – for the first time gathered in this prayer, they used to rest after every two salams (four raka’at).

In short, Hadith of Taraweeh Dua emphasizes the offering of Taraweeh prayer in the nights of Ramadan, whereas this practice was encouraged by the Prophet; the mentioned specific Dua in Arabic possesses its spiritual weight in the lives of Muslims. The most important aspects of the importance of Taraweeh are: being forgiven, enhancing spirituality, and acting upon the Sunnah of the Prophet in the month of Ramadan.
